All Saints Church - Newtown
This stunning 19th century church in the heart of Newtown was in need of refurbishment back in 2022. Rev Nia Wyn Morris and Architect Charles Cowens, gave Philip Jones Builders the opportunity to transform this holy building.
During this project, we had to ensure that it was restored to its natural beauty. The project lasted over 15 months, with many challenges faced and successfully overcome. Digging out at the back of building in preparation to erect an extension was what the start of this project. Working closely with our clients and their architect, we sourced matching stone, that similar to a Llanymynech limestone masonary.
The first stage of the project was the demolishing of the old extension and the groundworks to the rear, digging out footings for the new extension and a retaining wall. We then moved forward to clearing out the inside of the Church, including removing the parquet flooring and digging down below floor level inside. We also carefully removed the stone-arched window for access into the new extension. Ducts and underfloor pipes were then installed in preparation for the underfloor heating to be installed by our plumbers.
Meetings with numerous specialists were also ongoing behind the scenes such as the organ and sound technicians and our electricians. Our carpenters fitted a new kitchen as well as creating and putting together bespoke oak doors for storage in the church and meeting room as well as the external entrances.
New toilets were fitted which included disabled facilities. The main church was fitted with limestone slabs throughout. Our painter completed the decorating inside the building, which included all of the interior roof sections, walls and windows plus full decoration of the new extension.
Further external groundworks were completed which included slabbing and tarmac of the pathways around the building.
The Church is now back to its former glory and a video of the renovation progress can be found here: The Transformation of All Saints Church, Newtown, Mid-Wales – June 2023 (youtube.com)
